MOBILE
The mobile station is a 2004 Subaru Forester 2.0 X. As a member of Raynet the Forester is a good all round car as it has 4 wheel drive and a bit of ground clearance which is ideal for forest roads when we are doing safety for Car Rallies, Horse endurance events etc. Antenna's are a sirio 2/70 and an Atas 120 trunk mounted to the top of the tailgate.
The main radio that stays in the car, below the radio/CD, is a Yaesu FT8900 with a mobilite hands free kit for safe driving (well, as safe as my driving gets anyway!). The Yaesu FT857 has a home made mount that slides into the ashtray hole in the centre console and is the same radio used in the shack and portable. The navigator system, right of the steering wheel, is an Acer N35 PDA with Destinator 3 loaded as well as Anquet maps with live tracking.
The business end of the radio's are in the boot. The FT8900 is mounted next to the tailgate opening and the FT857 hides nicely in the spare wheel well.
Head units can quickly be removed from the car and mounted on a remote board with separation kits connected to the radio bodies in the boot, allowing outside operating when the weather is kind enough. (Not very often in this country!!). I would have taken this picture outside on a nice sunny day, but it was raining when I assembled it!!
