RADIOS
The main radio in the shack is a Kenwood TS2000E. This all mode radio covers amateur bands from 160m - 70cm. I like to work 6m and 2m SSB when conditions allow and the Kenwood can deliver 100w on 2m as well as all HF bands. For more information have a look at the Kenwood website: http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/products/comms/
Another HF - 70cm radio I use is the Yaesu FT857D. This is a truly portable radio and moves about with me. It is used as a back up in the shack or to monitor other frequencies like 6m for the slight chance of an opening!! I also use this radio for PSK31 with a G3ZLP interface. I use it mobile with a separation kit and an incredible ATAS 120 antenna. This antenna is great for ease of use as you just press the tune button on the radio and it tunes anywhere from 40m-70cm. HF performance is pretty good too!! It gets used in the shed as well and as the shed has a metal roof the ATAS 120 gets screwed onto the roof and away we go. Finally it is great for portable use and the LDG Z-11 Pro tuner sorts out any mismatches it encounters.
The next radio is the Yaesu FT8900. This Quad band FM radio is a great radio for both mobile and base. I use it mainly on 2m and 70cm, but have had a few E contacts on 10m's. It has a wide band receive and is fast at scanning, so is pretty good for listening to public service frequencies also. A cross band repeater is standard in this radio and can be quite useful for Raynet use. More info on both of these radios at: http://www.yaesu.co.uk/ |
